Magnesium IH regiment
Hi I have noticed IH has changed his preference in magnesium due to being safer, what was wrong with the previous version?

I don't mean to hijack the thread but have a similiar follow on question. If I'm taking Ortho Decalcify, 3 pills/day with 300mg Mg Orotate/pill is there any reason to take addition magnesium citrate as called out on the regimen page?

Usually it takes about a year to recover from a deficiency of magnesium. Also for purposes of detoxing, magnesium citrate or (magnesium glycinate, taurinate) are good. However, magnesium aspartate and chelate have been recently shown to be potentially problematic in a small minority of users.
Regarding orotate magnesium, that's all I am taking. It's perfectly fine just to take Decalcify, however if one is employing salt loading or is magnesium deficient, (have only used magnesium for a relatively short period of time) taking something like magnesium citrate is a good idea. For the most part, many with anxiety tendencies have been observed to do well with Magnesium L-Threonate.

cs, regarding transdermal mag (mag chloride), i use it on most of my body but have noticed that my chest often gets a rash-like reaction - non-painful, non-itchy and temporary but a definite reaction. does this suggest that i have some calicification of the heart?
also i've seen it suggested that if one regularly uses transdermal mag (mag oil and/or espom salt baths) in addition to an oral forms (for me that's mag malate and/or the mag in decalcify), this speeds the recovery from mag deficiency. is this reasonable?

I can't speak about the rash (maybe from the salts), however the transdermal will allow much faster recovery than oral alone.

Do other mineral deficiencies take so long to recover? I am going to start focus on mineral supplements soon like this one that you posted in a different thread http://www.iherb.com/Morningstar-Minerals-Immune-Boost-77-Mineral-Supplement-120-Capsules/16754?=hil335 as well as a diet high in nuts and seeds, but don't know how long this needs to be continued to correct any deficiencies, as I know its kind of shooting in the dark...

If I were you I would honestly switch to using magnesium oil. While taking magnesium orally is convenient it isn't really that effective in reducing a magnesium deficiency. You just can't take enough without causing digestive issues. When you use magnesium transdermal, you do not suffer from that limitation and can quickly bring your magnesium levels up to where they need to be in months as opposed to a year or more.
