Undenatured Whey Protein
Here's a quick one for everybody here:
I'm interested in whey protein as a way to boost glutathione. Whey protein that hasn't been heat processed maintains the bound cysteine, i.e. the two cysteine complex is retained because the sulfide bonds aren't broken. Liposomal glutathione seems to be a nice adjunct, but at first glance seems pretty expensive.
So I'm interested in finding an undenatured whey protein product that won't break the bank.
One of the popular ones, Immunocal, costs about $100 for a month's supply, not happening on this student's budget.
Anybody know of any cheaper, but quality sources of it? Thanks all.

Re: Undenatured Whey Protein
All US produced or sold protein powders -- by law -- have to be heat treated one or way or another. Any companies that say they aren't are being deceptive.
There are two method by which all protein are treated by 1. Flash heat treating at a slightly high temp quickly (e.g. 10-40s at 160F) or 2. Lower temp, slow heat treating over a longer times (e.g. 30mins at 145F)
It's not clear which method is best, some suggest the flash method:
Jay Robb Whey Protein http://www.jayrobb.com/protein/whey-protein-vanilla.asp
Other suggest, the lower slower method:

This was a third protein I found that is also one of the better ones is Mt Capra's Double Bonded Protein (from Goat milk) http://www.mtcapra.com/double-bonded-protein/
Not cheap stuff, any of them, but you get what you pay for, I guess.

Our Jay Robb Whey Protein powder comes from milk that is flash pasteurized for approximately 15 seconds at 72° C (161° F). This causes very little denaturing of the raw materials. No further heat is applied at any other phase of creating our delicious whey protein powders.
Other suggest, the lower slower method:

The milk used in Dr. Webster's Complete Raw Whey Protein is subjected to the minimum
amount of heat allowed by law. The temperature never reaches 149 degrees and is at or
around 145 degrees for only 30 minutes as required by law. This low temperature process kills
bacteria that might be in the milk but does NOT denature the healthy proteins or enzymes
found in the fresh raw milk.

Re: Undenatured Whey Protein
Thanks for the info, both of you.
I never realized. I wonder how this heating process relates to the micro-filtration process all of the these companies tout along with their undenatured whey.
