Saw Palmetto - Gynecomastia Concerns Empty Saw Palmetto - Gynecomastia Concerns

Post  MikeGore Fri Jul 15, 2011 7:04 am

Well after not taking anything that could remotely even cause bad side effects such as gynecomastia, due to the state of my hair I thought I should give it a try.
http://www.nanogen.co.uk/intervention-male-hair-loss-supplement.html

I am very concerned about this gynecomastia issue though. Some people say it is safe. But what do these people mean by safe. Do they not consider gynecomastia a danger? Also would taking this supplement mean less of a risk of gynecomastia or more compared to if takning Saw Palmetto alone. What about these other ingredients? Many of them have DHT inhibiting effects. Should I be worried? Do all supplements which inhibit DHT also potentially cause gynecomastia?

What can I do to make sure I don't get gynecomastia? I am also taking Maca root by the way. Is there perhaps a gyno cream I can use as a preventative measure. Should I also be taking DIM perhaps? But I heard that maca and DIM together would mean ingesting too many glucosinolates and goitre danger. Any advice would be appreciated?

Mike

There's lots of information via the search function on Gyno within the site.

The goitrogen fear related to DIM is extremely over rated. Sufficient iodine will prevent any concern. In fact, iodine should be taken as it helps counteract estrogen.

Would recommend against saw palmetto, phytosterols and overt DHT blockers if there is a concern.

Thanks for the reply.

Saw Palmetto seems to be one of the best supplements for hair loss and I haven't used it all this time. I guess it would be nice to know whether simply taking a maca supplement or DIM supplement would be enough to counteract the potential of saw palmetto causing gynecomastia whilst still being beneficial for hair loss.

I don't take iodine, but have iodine in my multivitamin which is 150 nano grams. Would this be enough?

Gynecomastia is usually a symptom of a larger problem, such as either hypo or hyper-thyroidism, liver dysfunction or low testosterone. Saw Palmetto is more of a symptom based treatment, not especially effective.

The amount of iodine is not enough. More info can be found here:

Thanks CS. Due to your recommendation I've decided to buy Lugols Iodine. But reading up on iodine I see that it can cause side effects or detox reaction. Would it be advisable to take something like chlorella to get rid of the heavy metals first before starting Iodine. If so how long should I take chlorella before taking Iodine? Also, if I am taking Iodine and maca, would that mean that we are safe from saw palmetto causing gynecomastia?
