SHBG and hypothyroidism Empty SHBG and hypothyroidism

The standard opinion on hair loss forums is that more SHBG is good. More SHBG --> less free testosterone available for 5AR conversion to DHT --> keep hair.

I just came across this article which explains that SHBG, in addition to binding with T/DHT, it also has a strong binding affinity for thyroid hormones T3/T4. If thyroid hormones are bound, they are inactive and thus unable to perform their physiological function at receptor sites. I believe this insensitivity to thyroid hormones is what CS has referred to as sub-clinical hypothyroidism (I might be wrong, please correct me if I am).

I guess I'd be interested in CS's opinion on this article.

I think that alot of you newbie incomers to the forum, incl. MisterE, has reversed alot of the forum quality.

Lowering T to to reduce 5ar is STUPIDITY.

The correct approach is to compete for binding to SHBG with a molecule that has the same affinity as T .. (nettle root)

My apologies cpio. I didn't mean to lash out at you. Sometimes this hair loss research puts me in a bad mood.

Free T is the only form that is bioavailable and can enter cells.

Having alot of free T circulating is a good thing, if you are a man.

YEa i've read a lot of debates over this subject... high bound T or high free T for hair loss... I don't know if there's ever going to be real closure on the subject, but I do know when I started taking a lot of nettle root my hair got better, i felt healthier, stronger, happier etc.

Now this has been explained to me like this: nettle root not only has a high binding affinity for SHBG, but also for DHT, rendering it inactive in the body. However, it was also explained to me that ONLY free T can be converted to DHT and I believe that it will either converted or excreted from the body, and not build up, so it would result in decreased T as well as lowered active DHT. I don't know what effect all of this would have on Estrogen, but it seems that E would end up in a higher ratio with T with long term use.

I really don't know though... too many conflicting opinions on not only Nettle, but the whole sex hormone operations in the body in general.

My advice is to take nettle root in cycles.
