Could there be a serious underlying cause for excess facial hair?

Facial Hair Empty Too little facial hair

Post  NeoGenesis Sat Jun 05, 2010 6:28 pm

While I realize this thread was started by one of those Ad people, this did remind me of something I wanted to ask... That is I actually do not grow very much facial hair and was wondering if there were any causitive factors of this? I know many will point to genetics however my dad and brothers all have very thick facial hair growth so I am not so sure. I seem to have less than the majority of people my age. I am 23 btw... Any opinions/observations on this?

I've had a full beard since I was 15. Does this mean anything as well?

Yes, me too. I guess it's just a symptom of high DHT or T level (it does't have to be too high, but higher than other teen mates). My doctor told me "You had matured a bit sooner than it's usual".

If I have high DHT, would lowering my DHT correct hair loss and would it reduce the amount of body hair I have?

I think lowering your DHT will definitely help correcting hairloss. Not sure about body hair. But I'm just a newbie... Wink

When I get a blood test, what would I need to ask for to get a DHT reading or will it be there anyway?

Are eating avacados a good enough source of beta sitosterol or is there anything negative about them?

I think I read somewhere also that facial hair is activated by DHT and therefore high DHT would equal more facial hair... that is why in my case, it is frustrating in the fact that I do not have a lot of facial hair but am also experiencing hair loss. Neutral

NeoGenesis: Yes, there are more factors than just high DHT level. Interesting thing is that I've a lot of facial hair on my neck, but not so much on my chin. Maybe there is a correaltion between this and low SHBG level, which is in my case very low.

tooyoung: It depends on which type of test you get. I got a blood test (endocrinologic) few moths ago and there DHT level wasn't measured. But when you look at SHBG and cortisol levels (maybe also blood sugar and T level), then DHT level test is not necessary.
