CS,

I have often noticed that there are those amongst us that eternally predisposed to be happy and look on the positives. I want to be happier and less temperamental mood wise I was wondering how much we can influence mood by supplementation and diet.

All thoughts welcome.

D

DesperateIntellect - There is a profound link with oral pathology and mood. One example is that dentists and dental hygenists have greater incidences of depressive symptoms, probably because they work around toxic metals.

Raising glutathione levels with optimal doses of vitamin D will help improve mood. If there's no oral pathology problems, improving digestion for assimilation of neurotransmitters can help.

Ultimately on mood there are various neurotransmitters, (serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine) which can be affected and many types of supplements can enhance these.

DesperateIntellect,

This book is priceless and contains near everything you'd ever need to know.

Deperateintellect--

Sam-e is a supplement known to affect mood. It also raises glutathione levels. I take it to support my joints, for which I have not found a parallel supp for such support. I can't attest to its mood elevating factor.

That said, I know for fact that my work out routine, Bikram yoga, is key to my emotional health. As days pass from not doing it, my mood gets darker and darker. (also, alcohol fosters a darker disposition and also lowers glutathione) If I work out every day, I am bouncing off the walls and am full of enthusiasm and lust for life. With Bikram, there is such a huge detox from the sauna like-heat, which ties into liver and glutathione; also, kidney health must play a role. If you can simply try a sauna, you might get a similar effect. But coupling a suana with exercise, I am certain is superior. Or an excercise in which you break a sweat and then some. Many people exercise to maintain emotional equilibrium, in general.

Nice, I was going to recommend the same book that Paradox mentioned. In addition to that I would recommend The Mood Cure by Julia Ross, The Healing Nutrients Within by Eric Braverman as well as Brain Allergies by William Phillpot. All of these titles are geared towards an orthomolecular approach to correcting mental and physical illness.
