Procyanidins/Proanthocyanidins
I was thinking of adding a strong antioxidant, perhaps apple procyanidins/proanthocyanidins.
What's minimum ORAC intact/day?
Any thoughts?
This blend seems to be good, but perhaps too weak? http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=7319

Taking three of those per day would suppy 5000 ORAC, which is probably the minimum for optimal health.
Ecklonia Cava supplies 8,300 ORAC

zerx | Nice one. I like that but it seems a bit expensive meaning one must drink quite a lot twice every day?
CS | I found the brand apple poly, it offers 25,000 ORAC/day. Could that lead to toxification?
Would this Ecklonia Cava be the better choise? Or would all three be too much?

Ecklonia does a lot of things that other antioxidants won't do. Besides the actual antioxidant activity, the various polyphenols have different actions depending on the type. If you get a "cleansing" or detox reaction it's a good thing.

If I had to choose only one, I would go with EC.
Next up would be goji. IH, have you ever munched on a few ounces of the berry. Like EC, it's one of those things that seems to very quickly produce results--I can even perceive it in my face: eyes whiter, skin more toned.

Goji is literally a super food. The best benefits are from the whole fruit. Lots of expensive juices out there.
Re: Procyanidins/Proanthocyanidins
I've only had the juice once when it was on sale at whole foods. Normally, I get the berries. The juice I had I thought was inferior to eating the whole berries, but it could have been the brand. Brands range in quality. One brand to avoid is Navitas. Every other brand I have tried so far has been good. The best deal I have gotten is 7 bucks for seven ounces. Two ounces a day will provide a major antioxidant boost. If you look at it this way, it's the same price as a starbucks coffee.

Re: Procyanidins/Proanthocyanidins
I plan on ordering a shitton of tibetan goji berries from naturalzing.com...along with raw cacao nibs. Been waiting for a bit of extra cash to do so though. Looking forward to it! I ordered 2 pounds of organic jungle peanuts to blend into peanut butter and use on my yeast-free bread from Pacific Bakery.
Btw IH, it arrived on the 10th but apparently had to be signed for. It tastes unlike regular bread...no sweetness really, and no air bubbles--very dense. I like it.

The zing site has a package of dried goji berries for $25. How should I handle them and for how long will one package last? Can someone get to much antioxidant effect?

Re: Procyanidins/Proanthocyanidins
the nidster--
that looks to be quite the premium goji. I usually get the ones from china. whole foods sells Hunza brand which is sourced in the himmalayas, but as I said, the brand I have been using with the chinese berries is cheaper and not bad at all.
I've noticed a few places stating that goji induces human growth hormone; I've heard this said about EC, as well. I wonder if this is the sort of "magic" youth quality that I associate with both.
misirlou,
You can pig-out on goji berries with abandon. Two ounces a day should provide a noticeable effect.

Misirlou - It means you can eat as many as you want and probably only be healthier for it. Goji is seriously packed with an impressive collection of nutrients.
Re: Procyanidins/Proanthocyanidins
I could easily get it as a powder. What is best, dried fruits or powder? I think it's wolfberries though.

Dried fruits I believe in this particular instance. Not in all. Someone may prove me wrong!

Re: Procyanidins/Proanthocyanidins
Make sure you get Goji berries and I honestly believe that the berries are a better choice than the powder. I usually add them to whatever I am blending. The plants will grow about anywhere, so if you can get seeds at a decent price then add them to the scenery of your yard.
I tend to stay away from the juices as they are usually fermented and are more of a wine. They lose some of their health benefits while increasing the sugar content.
I purchase mine at natural zing who carrier very high quality live food products although there is also sunfood.com and rawguru.com.
pubmed study on the consumption of goji berries: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18447631?ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum

Just an FYI, raw chocolate actually has the highest ORAC score.
