He Shou Wu and Chinese medicine
Hi again IH,
I'd really like to ask you what your thoughts are on Chinese medicine in regard to hair loss and overall good health and the treatment of disease. In particular, there is a herb called He Shou Wu which apparently reverses gray hair, thickens existing hair and assists in one's longevity. Do you know anything about this herb and do you think it's worth adding to your protocol.
Hope this doesn't sound wierd but I got this feeling that if all disease is going to be cured one day, it will come from China. It would be interesting to hear what you have to say on Chinese medicine (traditional and modern).
BTW, where is a good source where I can get Magnesium oil from?
Thanks IH and have a great weekend.

Grateful - In my very old, and out dated book on hair loss, I included fo-ti root (polygonum multiflorum) or He shou wu, which translated into English means, Black hair Mr. He.
It's not a miracle, but it increases superoxide dismutase and has beneficial flavonoids. I had used it for several years, but do not miss it.

Hi there IH,
Thanks for the reply and the source for mag oil. I might give the He Shou Wu a try but I'm a bit reluctant to if you're not so excited about it.

Ho Shou Woo also is a phytoestrogen. I megadosed on it for a bit and got bad sides associated with estrogen dominance: bloated stomach, no sex drive, symptoms of gyno.
It was the first an only time I ever experienced anything like it. I actually ran to my doc freaked out. Fortunately, I dropped it quickly and fully recovered. I tried to incorporate it several ways thereafter: dose, topically.
Each time I noted that no hair benefits came unless there were sides. The upside was that it opened my eyes to beleiving in the hormonal connection to hairloss; I had abandoned that idea because of my lack of success with DHT inhibitors.
Currently, I use PM and take Maca and eat soy products (out of convenience, not a therapy). My libido could not be better; metabolism is through the roof (since I added the PM), and hair feels great.
knock on wood>>>>
Finally, I also once had hope that "an ancient Chinese secret" would reveal itself. This is not the case. The collective research and experience on these boards on treating hairloss (of course IH is the top resource) trumps what you will get from most herbalists.
I'm pretty sure Kevin at www.ancietway.com, who had been producing many tonics has abandoned just about all of them at this point.

I figured the cures would come from the amazon!!
I tried and am on it again, but it is no "great" addition over what IH recommends.
