Question about sun exposure in the summer
I am planning on being a life guard this summer and I am wondering if I need some sort of sun screen to be used to prevent burn? What would be the best way to prevent burn and optimize vitamin D levels. Should I let the sun soak in for 10-15 mins then put on some sun block? And what product should I be using because I know regular sun screen isnt preferred here.

1..... - Astaxanthin from Krill oil or Polypodium leucotomos extract can help to an extent, actually much better than topical sunscreen.
Then there's a topical sunscreen here: http://www.iherb.com/Life-Extension-Sun-Protection-Spray-with-Beta-Glucan-6-oz-178-ml/10904?at=0
After a while, you might be able to build up enough melanin to protect you if your sun exposure remains fairly regular from day to day. However, in the transition, either wearing a T-shirt or using both internal and topical screens can help.

Re: Question about sun exposure in the summer
What is the benefit of using Life extension's product instead of an otc sun screen ?
What is the disadvantage of regular sun blocks products?
Just the vit D blockage?
IH- last summer even on a heavy antioxidant intake, and even after getting tanned a lot I got tens of little moles all over my back and shoulders. That infact occurs every summer season after sun exposure unless i use a sunscreen .Is there a way to prevent it and what is the real cause of mole formation? Is it a virus ?

OTC products have a lot of ingredients that I can't pronounce. This crap gets absorbed into your blood stream through your skin.

Re: Question about sun exposure in the summer
edony - Moles occur when melanin production is not sufficiently spread out, but instead clusters in a concentrated area.
Melanin is what creates the pigment of skin and when produced normally, is supposed to protect from future exposures. Darker skin people already have an abundance of melanin, so they will have less chance of a cluster problem.
When being exposed to the sun, the melanocytes that produce melanin may accelerate their production in response to the sun exposure. A lot of moles have already formed in childhood, but may grow larger into adulthood.
Like Scottyc33 said, you put a "regular" sun block on, your skin will "eat" anything that you put on it.

CS - what arae your thoughts on skin cancer?
Will proper diet and supplementation generally protect you?
I think that most peoples' "fear" of the sun and skin cancer is over-hyped to say the least.

Re: Question about sun exposure in the summer
CS- I have been getting burnt pretty badly lately and I do take krill oil. The product that you mentioned above says that it blocked UVA and UVB which means that it will block vitamin D. Is there anything else I can do to prevent sunburn and still receive vitamin D?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Question about sun exposure in the summer
You have to take a minimum 3 or 4 krill oil right before sun exposure.
If you don't take enough or took it several hours before sun exposure it won't work IME.
