Mislou, I am not sure there are a summary, but an important paragraph can be highlighted here:

Chronic asymptomatic SIBO can result in systemic inflammation.11 Circulating
levels of cytokines such as TNF- and proinflammatory interleukins are elevated in
SIBO.12 Recent evidence indicates that low-grade SIBO may present with virtually no GI
symptoms but may affect the body in profound ways because of the systemic
inflammation it causes. This may explain many syndromes and symptoms associated with
chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, interstitial cystitis, restless
legs syndrome and rosacea (table 3). SIBO may also explain other syndromes due to the
presence of systemic low-grade inflammation and increased intestinal permeability.

Thanks for the link cpio.

Here's another interesting one

http://www.celiac.com/articles/21842/1/-Bacterial-Overgrowth-Gut-Permeability-Tied-to-Non-alcoholic-Fatty-Liver-Disease/Page1.html

A quote

"They studied 35 patients with biopsy-confirmed NAFLD [non-alcoholic fatty liver disease], 27 with celiac disease and 24 healthy volunteers. For each participant, the research team checked levels of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth using a glucose breath test. They evaluated intestinal permeability by examining urinary excretion of Cr-EDTA. They then assessed the integrity of tight junctions within the gut via duodenal biopsy.

"The main findings of this study are that both intestinal permeability and the prevalence of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth are increased in patients with NAFLD [non-alcoholic fatty liver disease]and correlate with the severity of steatosis," the authors report. "Disruption of tight junction integrity may explain the increased permeability in these patients."
