Ratios Explanation. Which hormones we want up, which we want down?
Hi CS and all,
Let's write a quick summary here please of the main hormones and other proteins...enzymes etc, indicating (generally) which ones we want up and which we want down for good health and hair:
examples i can think of that you come across often are:
T, DHT, free T, estrogen, SHBP, SHBG, IGF-1, 5-A-R, aromatase, DHEA, glutathione
Then, i'd like to know:
Do we want to inhibit 5-A-R by taking a 5-A-R inhibitor?
Do we want to take an aromatase inhibitor?
Or, does inhibiting these cause side-effects like anxiety or feminization?
thank you!

Re: Ratios Explanation. Which hormones we want up, which we want down?
The short answer is balance. Keeping Glutathione as high as possible is ideal for both longevity and hair health.
The others are needed and without enough (or in excess) can cause a lot of problems.

Within the balance, what is the ratio of these, or listed by the most to the least needed in men? i am assuming we want lots T and growth hormone but little estrogen .. and dont we need less of 5-A-R?

Yes, that is exactly correct.
There can be some variations depending upon age. SHBG tends to too low in younger men who have MPB...however, much older men can benefit from having it reduced somewhat (at least from having more bioavailable testosterone).
Some estrogen is necessary...but it gets lost in translation, because there are groups of estrogens and different forms of receptors. Cutting estrogen off completely is disastrous for MPB.

Does saw palmetto inhibit 5-A-R safely or is it like finasride with the feminizing side effects?

The short answer is no where near as bad as "Poison-steride"
Poisons like Finasteride and Do-Trash-Your-Ride do in fact 'work' by suppressing gene expression of 5-AR.
Other things in the natural way, reducing 5-AR simply by reducing inflammation. This is why I do not even "mess" with saw palmetto, because even though it does reduce 5-AR, it inhibits it, which is not always perfect...however when or if problems arise, the effects are usually reversible....
With Finasteride...those effects are not always reversible. There many men who have been genetically altered...It deranges the endocrine system.
Even if people feel that it isn't poisoning them, they may not be aware that suppressing genes of 5-AR can result in memory impairment, higher rates of anxiety and depression.
