I can't seem to locate it, but I heard in the news a few weeks ago that long term vit D has serious negative effects. I can't remember the details, but did any of you hear this study and does that refer to the vit D3 that is in IH's list (D3/K2)?

Thanks!

Based on all the evidence, Vitamin D is critical to optimal health. One thing that is clear to me is that low vitamin D is associated wit premature death and virtually all ICU patients have low levels of D3, but those who live long tend to have high D3 levels.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17846391

If one gets tested they would want to aim for between 70 and 100 ng/mL Most have far below these levels. The safe upper limit of D3 is 10,000 IU daily.

Lund, thx for that Amy Proal post. I know at least one of the folks commenting at the bottom trying to get to the bottom of the D3 more/less issue. No where in that artical was it mentioned a recent understanding between the co-dependance of D on vit A, as in the natural balance of both in cod liver oil and sun receiving grass fed animal meats.

I need a translation of this comment at the end of Amy's ariticle into lay manese: http://bacteriality.com/2007/09/15/vitamind/#1

lopecia and VDR’s: “Humans with selected mutations in the vitamin D receptor (VDR) and mouse models lacking VDR develop alopecia” (BIKLE, ELALIEH, CHANG, ZHONGJIAN & SUNDBERG, 2006). Again, “These studies demonstrate that absence of the VDR leads to the development of alopecia…Investigations in transgenic mice have demonstrated that restricted expression of the VDR to keratinocytes is capable of preventing alopecia in the VDR null mice, thus demonstrating that the epidermal component of the hair follicle requires VDR expression to maintain normal hair follicle homeostasis…Therefore, VDR but not vitamin D deficiency results in alopecia” (Hoffmann & Valencia, 2004).

Thanks, curt
