How to get over insomnia/sleep issues without unbalancing neurotransmitters?
There are couple of supplements doctors recommend to get over insomnia (primary or secondary) and general sleep issues. The list includes magnesium, theanine, tryptophan, 5-HTP, melatonin, and several serotonergic herbs like ashwagandha and valerian. The problem with these supplements is that they all either increase serotonin activity and/or decrease dopamine activity. The unbalance of dopamine/serotonin eventually leads to greater health risks like gut issues (constipation, bloating) because certain level of dopamine is required to keep the gut engaged. Both relative and absolute levels of dopamine and serotonin are important to keep a healthy body.
Besides the supplements that I mentioned, are there any safe protocols/supplements/lifestyle changes that can induce better sleep at night? I've always had a sleep issue since I was a small child, so solving this would help me greatly with overall health. Thanks in advance.

Inositol helped me a bit, I don't know if it unbalances neurotransmitters but I've read about it making them work better
