Re: OT: Fred the Belgian is mentioned in this female attraction video LOL
who cares ?
he takes propecia and fish oil and expects to solve his hair loss ?
complete ignorance deserves contempt
if you take fish oil for 8 years and see no results, I have no sympathy for people who do the same thing over and over

What a find. This made me laugh so hard, no offense to Fred.
But seriously, men are more straightforward than women. A woman's doublespeak leads you to believe they want a nice guy, but they actually crave strong verile alpha males.
Women want that alpha male to be intimidating to everyone except themselves. And they will push your sorry white beta knight ass outta the way in order to get to them. Alpha males get to choose their mate, usually not vise versa. Only then can you commit to removing the shallow and vacuous from the equation
I'd rather die by the truth than live by the lie.

LOL Fred the Legend. I didn't know he was still posting about his hairloss on the Internet; I thought he had his hair transplant, then lived happily ever after.
I came across his twitter page, and he's apparently a nymphomaniac male escort who enjoys unprotected sex with clients lol I posted his twitter info here, but decided to delete it because I thought that someone may have made a troll twitter account to slander him.

fred the belgian's regimen :
vitamin a
vitamin d 25,000
vitamin b5
minoxidil
fish oil
as fish oil can actively contribute to hair loss, and the fact his regimen is unscientific, and just random,
and has been the same for 8 years,
he is utterly clueless and ignorant and should be ignored for hair loss advice

Fish oil and other marine-based oil do not cause hair loss.
The devil is in the details. I've been taking a variety of fish/marine/code/krill oils since the mid-2000's (that's about a steady 10 years now). They were one of the things to really make a dent into PGD2, a major factor in hair loss.
That said, taking anymore of marine oil exceeding 3 grams will create problems - in other words, diminishing returns at that dosage level.
For me, I just take 1,000 mg of Krill oil per day. And yes, in any of the above forms, it really helped reduce the inflammation. Because avoiding processed food or food cooked in politically correct 'heart healthy oil' is not easy, especially if you eat out.
Furthermore, for the vegan/vegetarian types who prefer to avoid marine anything, there's certain Omega-6 oils that have similar anti-inflammatory effects as marine oils, those being GLA.
I do not subscribe to Ray Peat's universal anti-PUFA strategy.
There is a big difference between consuming modest amounts of marine oils and/or unprocessed GLA-based Omega-6 oils verses processed PUFA's. This is what is missing in Peat's theory.
Considering that, I am and have repeatedly wrote about the dangers of inferior fats.
These are: interesterified fat, manufactured trans-fat/partially hydrogenated oil (not from nature), refined PUFAS (not whole)

Re: OT: Fred the Belgian is mentioned in this female attraction video LOL
CS, I was going to mention this last night, but I fell asleep. Wiki page mentions this as one of the functions of PGD2: "It is involved in the regulation of reducing body temperature in sleep, and acts opposite to PGE2." This made me wonder about something... if it is released during sleep in order to aid in temperature reduction, then would this not suggest that our bodies - unknown to us - are overheating during sleep? I just find it interesting that the only time I now overheat is when I'm in bed and covered with a thick duvet. The only way I have been able to remedy this is by sleeping as much as possible without a duvet or sleeping with a flimsy blanket (although this would be impractical in the winter).
So, if the wiki source is correct (and others), then heat stress during sleep causes PGD2 levels to elevate, and therefore could be accelerating hairloss.
Any thoughts on this?

That's an interesting connection. Offhand I do know that it's difficult to fall asleep unless the temperature drops a bit.Xenon wrote:CS, I was going to mention this last night, but I fell asleep. Also, there is a connection with PGD2 and ejaculation--giving that relaxing/tranquil effect.
So now I'll dig something up:
Sleep Med Rev. 2011 Dec;15(6):411-8. doi: 10.1016/j.smrv.2011.08.003.
Prostaglandin D2 and sleep/wake regulation.
Urade Y1, Hayaishi O.
Prostaglandin (PG) D2 is the most potent endogenous sleep-promoting substance. PGD2 is produced by lipocalin-type PGD synthase localized in the leptomeninges, choroid plexus, and oligodendrocytes in the brain, and is secreted into the cerebrospinal fluid as a sleep hormone. PGD2 stimulates DP1 receptors localized in the leptomeninges under the basal forebrain and the hypothalamus. As a consequence, adenosine is released as a paracrine sleep-promoting molecule to activate adenosine A2A receptor-expressing sleep-promoting neurons and to inhibit adenosine A1 receptor-possessing arousal neurons. PGD2 activates a center of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep regulation in the ventrolateral preoptic area, probably mediated by adenosine signaling, which activation inhibits the histaminergic arousal center in the tuberomammillary nucleus via descending GABAergic and galaninergic projections. The administration of a lipocalin-type PGD synthase inhibitor (SeCl4), DP1 antagonist (ONO-4127Na) or adenosine A2A receptor antagonist (caffeine) suppresses both NREM and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, indicating that the PGD2-adenosine system is crucial for the maintenance of physiological sleep.
