How bad is minoxidil really?
Hey guys, so today I've decided to start using minoxidil 5% once a day at night time. My plan is to also dermaroll once a week, use apple cider vinegar after dermarolling and skip one application of minoxidil after rolling. I also will be taking taurine, decalcification supplement, and a couple of other vitamins / supplements. I've decided to start doing this after 10 months of twice a day DT therapy (for 20 minutes a day like the "study" recommended) which didn't stop my recession. I think I'm going to keep doing some DT and try and keep my scalp loose, because I do think it helps my hair quality. I'm also shampooing with Pura D'Or which definitely makes my hair look thicker.
My recesssion is almost exclusively at the hair line region, currently I have no vertex thinning or very little. I'm following the hairloss patterns of the men on my mom's side. I noticed it starting abuot a year ago and I would say I'm a NW 2 or 3 now.
I know minoxidil isn't really recommended on this forum, but I think keeping it to once a day will help a lot with any sides I might encounter. Some might say it won't be effective at this frequency but I'm going to try it out. if it just helps thicken up my hair that would be great, because my hairline is looking ragged these days. What do you guys think of this? Any recommendations for things to add? Is there another topical to look into? I'm close to just buzzing my hair and forgetting about it, even though I'm pretty sure I'll look pretty stupid. I'm just so tired of worrying about this. I'll give this regimen a few months and let you guys know what happens.

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
It's bad enough - It can derange the collagen of the skin (advancing the aging process), and there are some other starting things (it can interfere with other treatments).

Skinmed. 2015 Jan-Feb;13(1):15-21.
Rosemary oil vs minoxidil 2% for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia: a randomized comparative trial.
Abstract
Rosmarinus officinalis L. is a medicinal plant with diverse activities including enhancement microcapillary perfusion. The present study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of rosemary oil in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and compare its effects with minoxidil 2%. Patients with AGA were randomly assigned to rosemary oil (n = 50) or minoxidil 2% (n = 50) for a period of 6 months. After a baseline visit, patients returned to the clinic for efficacy and safety evaluations every 3 months. A standardized professional microphotographic assessment of each volunteer was taken at the initial interview and after 3 and 6 months of the trial. No significant change was observed in the mean hair count at the 3-month endpoint, neither in the rosemary nor in the minoxidil group (P > .05). In contrast, both groups experienced a significant increase in hair count at the 6-month endpoint compared with the baseline and 3-month endpoint (P < .05). No significant difference was found between the study groups regarding hair count either at month 3 or month 6 (> .05). The frequencies of dry hair, greasy hair, and dandruff were not found to be significantly different from baseline at either month 3 or month 6 trial in the groups (P > .05). The frequency of scalp itching at the 3- and 6-month trial points was significantly higher compared with baseline in both groups (P < .05). Scalp itching, however, was more frequent in the minoxidil group at both assessed endpoints (P < .05). The findings of the present trial provided evidence with respect to the efficacy of rosemary oil in the treatment of AGA._________________

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
Like CS mentioned about the aging process happened to me.
Took Minoxidil a long time ago, and suddenly after about 3 months of usage my body system literally crashed.
My face swallowed with wrinkles and i had severe rashes on my neck, arms, legs and it went so bad for me that i had figure out how to stop the bleeding from the rashes.
Took me the same amount of time to heal, with every possible cream that i found in the drugstore.

I used it for about a month once a day, at which point my eyes became so dry that they were in constant pain and I wasnt able to look at a computer monitor for too long, which was an issue given that I was studying computer science and my job was all computer based. Also had bad fatigue. Not worth it for me, but if you don't experience sides and you educate yourself and think the long term risks are worth it then it might be an option.

Something like that
My wife's face was even scarier when she saw me in the morning, had to clean up her coffee from the floor and call in sick to my work place.

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
Hmm aging faster than normal, extra wrinkles, tiredness, man I just don't know if minoxidil is worth it... I hate the thought of having to be on something forever that could cause these side effects. My hairline is receding so quickly though! Man this whole balding thing sucks! Maybe I'll look into Super Zix or something like that. I really have no idea what to do at this point!

1+ year on minoxidil 5% once or twice a day if I don't forget to use it twice, no sides. Take a collagen supplement on the mornings, its a powder, standard dose.
Aging will happen no matter what. Just avoid excessive tanning. In my opinion wrinkles aren't that bad if you have hair like george clooney. Who would you rather be, baby smooth skin Moby or rugged Clooney?

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
I have been using minox two months now and so far no sides, going to start using face cream with matrixyl or collagen growth factor to prevent any loss of collagen as a precaution but honestly no change in my face in terms of wrinkles yet.

Why do they always test herbs against 2% minox and not the 5%, I feel it is dishonest because it is highly probable none of these herbs would succeed again 5% minox

Keep it up since you wont notice it until your body says no, like it happened to me.
Can take from a couple of weeks to years actually but still, it´s not meant to be in your system.

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
If you dont want to use minox you can use L'oreal SERIOXYL ,Stemoxydine 5% lots of people on other hair loss forums are now using this and they say it works. It has no side effects either and is guaranteed to give you a minimum of 1700 new hairs within 3 months of using.

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
Why haven't I heard about it??? I live in the baldness forums..
Interesting.
I never received 1700 hairs in 15 years from Mikoxidil.
Could you provide more info and research? And thank you kindly.

You probably heard of it under the name Neogenic which lots of people were using but then a less expensive brand containing the same active Stemoxydine 5% came out called SERIOXYL which lots of people are now using. I have been using it only since the beginning of August so I cant comment but it takes 3 months to show results.

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
And it's been tested on men? I hope this is more than a thickener. Is there just one particular bottle? I saw two online: serum and densifying.
Seems there are several formulas.
What's the exact one? And what's your baldness regimine?
Do you use cs's regimine?

Yes it has been tested on men, you need the one in the blue bottle. If you want you can get the other one too but that one is only cosmetic (it coats the individual hairs and makes your hair look thicker).
You apply it once a day to dry clean hair and rub into scalp. It drys very quickly and is non greasy unlike minox liquid.
I am using minox at night and serioxyl during day, In addition I am taking supplements.

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
Oh, you're still on minoxidil.
I regret stopping minoxidil. I've taken a hair dump..and I stopped propecia.
I am considering starting minoxidil again.
What do you think of dr. bauman's M82.
I used to use minoxidil from hair loss control clinic in lantham ny.
It had a carrier lotion so it wasn't as greasy.
How about the laser helmet.
I bought a used one from a guy that was built by OMG(macho grande). It has 598 diodes.
I don't hear too much on the forums if macho's laser helmets have been beneficial for them or not.
I know it dries the hell out of your hair, though.

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
It changed my aesthetics in a big way. Looked like a different person.
Puffy face- think blow fish.
More wrinkles.
Dark bags under eyes-very noticeable.
Chest pains when doing intense cardio.
This was @3-4month mark. No thanks.
If you must have an alternative. Adenogen by sheisedo is a very nice product, however pricey.

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
I used minoxidil(hlcconline.com) for 10 years with no adverse side effects.
No puffiness in face...wrinkles? Maybe. But I'm older.
I've always eaten a lot of good fat and meat and veggies and I've used high-end facial products.
In all honesty, I just don't fucking know anymore. I really don't.
I may try Bauman's m82 minoxidil. Too FUCKINH expensive, though.

Yes I was at a store and they were selling minox 6 bottles very cheap so I just put it in my trolley without thinking, started it two months ago and started serioxyl at beginning of month. I'm going to finish all 6 bottles of minox now that I have it and after that I may not use it again, dont know at this point. Way I see it is if I use both I can wakeup maximum number of dormant bulbs and once awakened I will drop minox and stay with serioxyl and maybe topical dht inhibitor....I know people on here would be against this but their all bald anyway !
I tried natural approach and lost a load of hair

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
Understand.
What natural approach did you try? Immortal's? Have you used propecia?
Again, I stopped both so my only natural approach thus far is immortal's.
But I am thinking about resuming minoxidil.
Last question. What dht topical are you talking about?

Re: How bad is minoxidil really?
TRICOLOPURE MEN supplement
resveratrol, curcumin, black pepper
Ecklonia Cava
Apple polyphenols
Multi vit/minerals
I never used fin and I am not going to either, hence topical dht inhibitor instead
I have studied herbs for a long time now so I know how to make a potent topical dht inhibitor just using herbs, I will try that but would use RU before I would ever think of fin.
