Re: Longevity Post Video - Carnitine
I actually admire a genuine and knowledgeable vegan lifestyle, not preachy adolescent trolls with incomplete science like Vegan Gains. Vegans such as Freelee the Banana Woman are getting health and even veganism wrong by eating way too much fruit; she looks weak, emaciated and wouldn't be surprised if she develops a fatty liver. Their messages are fundamentally flawed.
I simply choose to be on the top of the food chain and know to eat enough veggies. While these combative vegans are consuming one another, I will be consuming animal meat as was intended.
And I certainly know the value of the aminos such as carnitine, carnosine and taurine etc, it's ignorant to state anything to the contrary. Most of most modern science is corrupted, cherry-picked and lacking basic fucking common-sense, follow at your own peril.

And now Dr. Oz is joining the anti-carnitine brigade. Good to see commenters there challenging him.

Re: Longevity Post Video - Carnitine
An overwhelming percentage of mitochondrial energy comes from fatty acids. And L-carnitine is the only true carrier for that metabolism.
Along with CoQ10, carnitine helps to move energy into the mitochondria. However only l-carnitine can transfer across the membrane without any assistance. Without both you would have very limited energy to maintain basic function.
Misguided, myopic science is becoming a really frightening trend. L-carnitine bad, statins good. I guess if you are trying to shut down your mitochondrial engine and create new diseases, then it's a boon.

Re: Longevity Post Video - Carnitine
I have Acetyl L-carnitine (ALCAR) from Bulk Supplements. The instructions say to take 500 mg (1/8 tsp.) per day "or as directed by a physician." (Ha, like most
doctors would know the first thing about it.) I think their recommendations are on the conservative side. Anyone know what amount would be optimum? Play physician?

Re: Longevity Post Video - Carnitine
I've been taking various forms of L-Carnitine since 2004 (virtually without any interruption).
I've taken mostly Acetyl L-Carnitine.
MRM Acetyl L-Carnitine
I'm too lazy to use the powder.
The main interest in Carnitine for me is 2-fold. It's good for hair and it's good for the heart/erectile function.
When it's used in high doses (something I use consistently) is at 4 grams per day. I also take Lipoic Acid with it, because it enhances its effect. Great for the brain, great for focus and good for "downstairs" too.
When I worked at an integrative clinic, it was administered via IV and orally to cardiac patients (including congestive heart failure), heart disease, etc. Usually orally at 3 grams per day.
When people get bamboozled with nonsense from Dr. Oz's well intention-esq advise against using Carnitine I just say...take a look at the research on carnitine and heart function. And look what it does for libido vs testosterone...add some Lipoic acid for good measure it's a good place to be. Anything that is generally good for the libido (that's natural) is good for circulation and heart function.

Thanks...4 grams, then I guess that translates to a teaspoon. Lipoic Acid, OK. Anything that is good for the brain, I can use

Yes, I think it's fair to say that in in this day and age when almost *everything* is affecting our brain, computers, wi-fi, cellular, microwave radiation, wrong spectrum lighting, avoidance of natural light and of course, processed foods, delicious junk, etc, this combo is great for sharpening the focus.
For just the mood, 1,000 mg of ALC with either 100 mg of stabilized R-lipoic (or higher doses of ALA) -- best taken with food (to avoid any glucose leveling effects). I think it works well for a sugar crash preventative or post meal "food coma"

Re: Longevity Post Video - Carnitine
Didn't Aubrey De Grey say that what carnitine usage could cause trouble laterdown the line? Was it because of the same study the vegan guy reference? (That dude needs to hit the squat rack lol)
