What has become ubiquitous with age - gray hair - may soon become a thing of the past. Forget about trips to the hair salon, or buying box dye to cover up those roots, now a team of European researchers say.
In a new research report published online in The FASEB Journal people who go gray develop massive oxidative stress via accumulation of hydrogen peroxide in the hair follicle, which causes hair to bleach itself from the inside out.

The report notes that the enormous accumulation of hydrogen peroxide can be cured with a proprietary treatment developed by the researchers described as a topical, ultraviolet B-activated -- sunlight -- compound PC-KUS, a modified pseudocatalase.
What's more, the study also showed the same treatment works for the skin condition, vitiligo which is a condition that causes de-pigmentation of sections of skin. Although vitiligo isn't an agonizing, or dangerous condition, it can still be pretty distressing because it can change people's appearance so much, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. One to 2 million people in the U.S. have vitiligo, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.
"For generations, numerous remedies have been concocted to hide gray hair," said Dr. Gerald Weissmann, the editor-in-chief of The FASEB Journal, "but now, for the first time, an actual treatment that gets to the root of the problem has been developed. While this is exciting news, what's even more exciting is that this also works for vitiligo. This condition, while technically cosmetic, can have serious socio-emotional effects of people. Developing an effective treatment for this condition has the potential to radically improve many people's lives."
In the current study, an international group of 2,411 patients with vitiligo, 2.4 percent were diagnosed with strictly segmental vitiligo and after treatment of the pseudocatalase activated via sunlight, the pigment of the skin and eyelashes returned.
The researchers did not specify when the treatment would become available for retail.

i guess because we would rather have grey hair than no hair. i wonder wat the effect on hairloss would be. ive often thought once hair goes grey, it doesnt miniturize as much but it could just be because of age, by that time its already stablized anyway.
there wont be alot of interest on these forums, because we have hairloss.

Re: Say Bye-Bye to Gray Hair, Researchers Find Way to Reverse The Process
I wrote an article that predates that news, it has worked for me totally.
http://web.archive.org/web/20120703005546/http://healthyfixx.com/48/can-gray-hair-be-reversed-naturally
A new notes: This website is down due to legal problems (really got screwed here because of another company for no good reason). Over a year of writing for nothing (sorry for the rant). So it has to be viewed via waybackmachine.
However, will be updating everything and put on another site eventually.
That said...I recommend just one supplement for graying hair (primarily).
http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-Copper-Sebacate-22-mg-120-Tablets/1155
Just take one per day. If you take vitamin C, take it away from it (it will chelate it out).
I no longer suggest Beta-alanine (why?) Because it tends to work too effectively at removing copper.
Another thing, taking the form of copper mentioned above will replace the bad copper, with the good.
So if anyone has read the typical incorrect presumptions, please ignore them.
If you're old enough, Melatonin wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Age 30 to 40 is a good place to start, depending on your needs.

CS, have you ever noticed nausea using recommended copper? I've been using it for a while, but on empty stomach is no-go for me. A friend of mine experiences the same.

Minerals should not be taken on an empty stomach.

CS, how much melatonin would you suggest for a 36 male? I have no problem with sleep, only interested in the other benefits of melatonin... Thanks!

Copper Toxicity seems to be huge problem because of food sources and drinking water. Seems that Copper and Zinc ratio's are important, also there is the issue where the body has copper but not bio-available.CausticSymmetry wrote:I wrote an article that predates that news, it has worked for me totally.

So taking copper supplements how will this correct, the Zinc ratio and bio-available copper?
And thank you for the link.

Re: Say Bye-Bye to Gray Hair, Researchers Find Way to Reverse The Process
I doubt very much that the average adult drinking essentially from essentially oxidized copper pipes is getting adequate copper -- in the range of 2-4mg daily. Unless they are consuming large amounts of pate, oysters, pure chocolate, lobster and shellfish, it's difficult to become copper toxic.
In fact, inadequate copper would actually increase iron toxicity, as copper (along with vitamin C) is required for proper iron metabolism. Otherwise iron doesn't get converted to the ferrous form and stored as ferritin to be eventually distributed.
Copper deficiency is also implicated in hypo/hyperthyroid, improper clotting, poor cellular respiration, poor immune function and low blood sugar.
Instead copper is one of the most under recognized mineral for health. Not just for grey and brittle hair, it's THE most important mineral for strong cross linking between collagen and elastin fibers.
Without strong elastin and collagen, our bodies would literally fall apart. Otherwise we would eventually develop aneurysms and weakened and softened veins/arteries, connective tissues and bone.

Trial and error. It's not a perfect answer....Would suggest starting out with 1 mg and increase if necessary.gonzalito wrote:CS, how much melatonin would you suggest for a 36 male? I have no problem with sleep, only interested in the other benefits of melatonin... Thanks!
For unknown reasons there are some people who will not feel right on it. So, when in doubt, let your body be your guide.
Some websites report of a negative feedback loops, however this is not accurate. I usually take about 6 mg per night.

Could not have stated it any better. Copper really is an under appreciated nutrient.4039 wrote:I doubt very much that the average adult drinking essentially from essentially oxidized copper pipes is getting adequate copper -- in the range of 2-4mg daily. Re: Say Bye-Bye to Gray Hair, Researchers Find Way to Reverse The Process
Might as well add.... by significantly altering your body chemistry with exceedingly large quantities of zinc, vitamin C, MSM, colloidal silver EDTA, there's a good chance of severe copper inadequacy, of which a prolonged period can be deadly.

That one is an exception. Because it has a unique method of transport.

My blood serum levels were 16 umol/l. But still suffer from premature gray hair. Is my copper level low?CausticSymmetry wrote:Could not have stated it any better.
