Potassium channel openers
6 drugs that work through potassium channel opening mechanism , such as minoxidil , tested for their ability to grow hair in monkeys. p-1075 , monoxidil, cromakalim, diazoxide, pinacidil , nicorandil.
most of them reported to cause hypertrichosis in human , and enhanced cysteine incorporation to hair shaft.
nicorandil activates cGMP and also is potassium channel opener.
all of this drugs showed significant increasing in hair count and weight.

these drugs (except minox) never tested properly on humans...but the question is do they share the same side effects of minox, because their similarity of mechanism???

Re: Potassium channel openers
I feel like more discussion needs to go into natural potassium channel openers and vasodilators. People have tried potassium chloride and magnesium chloride (mag oil) without much to report. Would potassium nitrate possibly be better used topically? Dipotassium phosphate is used as a vasodilator in pre-workout supplements.
"Opening these channels hyperpolarizes the smooth muscle, which closes voltage-gated calcium channels and decreases intracellular calcium. With less calcium available to combine with calmodulin, there is less activation of myosin light chain kinase and phosphorylation of myosin light chains"

This could explain why minox slows down hairloss in some people, closing off calcium channel = less calcification of the follicle?
