Prince William looks like someone who has it all: royal status, a charming fiancee, good health, and an easy touch with his future subjects. But there is one thing he lacks: a full head of hair.

Casual observers who have not paid much attention to Britain's future king in the years before his recent engagement to Kate Middleton have been surprised by the extent of the 28-year-old's hair loss. William still cuts a tall, imposing figure, but his bald spot has been spreading as his hairline recedes.

It's even more apparent since his 26-year-old brother Prince Harry still sports a luxuriant supply of tousled red hair.

The British tabloids have been merciless in their coverage, constantly punning the "hair to the throne" theme, and comparing his hair loss to that of his father, Prince Charles, and the follically challenged prime minister, David Cameron.

William keeps his hair short, as befits a Royal Air Force helicopter rescue pilot, but the military look only emphasizes the way his hairline has changed.

Is hair loss dampening William's appeal? Jennifer Engelhart, a 19-year-old student, doesn't think he should worry.

"He's got the prince appeal and I don't think ... the lack of hair can ever take that away," she said.

Zoe Robinson, another student, also doesn't see a problem with the thinning hair: "It's just kind of a part of him, isn't it?"

William's receding hairline has a genetic link. His father, Charles, and his grandfather, Prince Philip, also experienced it, although at a slower pace.

Dr. Bessam Farjo, a British hair restoration surgeon who has treated patients as young as 14, said William should take steps now to keep as much hair as possible.

"Considering his young age and the unpredictability of where his hair loss is going to end, his main priority should be to stabilize his situation," Farjo said. "Some medications certainly have a track record of stopping the hair loss so long as the person continues to use (them)."

Farjo said it has become socially acceptable over the last decade for men to intervene to prevent hair loss.

There is a simpler solution: William could just follow in his grandmother's footsteps and develop a fondness for hats.

those English people are unrelenting. He probably just doesn't care, not trying to hide it or make any excuses for it. A noble attitude especially when there is such a misinformation about what actually causes it.

Why would he? Dude is royalty, a pilot, and pretty good looking, bald or not. He doesn't need hair.

I think you can be the richest, most successful person in the world and still care about your hair!

Not to mention, he's royalty, and among many prominent circles going bald is considered distinguished and experienced looking. It sure helps that he would be among the most desirable men in England with or without hair.

I think it speaks to a lot of things. You would think that a man such as him, with enough money to do nearly anything he wanted, would be able to have any experimental procedure done that he wanted. Fact is he probably could, there probably isn't a doctor that wouldn't do any hair saving procedure he wanted regardless of health agency approval on this planet, he probably just doesn't give a shit.

Granted he's in a better position than all of us, but it goes to show that the "if I were only rich" fantasies many of us probably have from time to time may not be so black and white as we think. If any of us were rich, we may not care about the MPB at all, and that may be more liberating than actually battling and beating hair loss, yet having to spend a lifetime having to maintain that state.

Good for him. He leads a fantastic life and looks to have an amazing girl. Good for him and he does nothing but help those of us losing hair.

Of course he is losing his hair, the royal families of all cultures are Reptilian Shapeshifters. And as we all know reptiles are lacking in hair (compared to mammals). If you look at them while they are on camera you can sometimes see their pupils turn into slits like a cat or a reptile. Sometimes you will see their hands turn into claws on camera for brief blips. Other times you will see their face fade into a zombie kind of apperance.

If he undergoes treatment, the tabloids will be all over him even more, which is why he perhaps doesn't care and prefers to let nature take its course. Besides, he's good-looking, successful and the bald head will give him a wise, distinguished look fitting for a royal. He also acts as a poster boy for us younger balding men.
