what blood tests to get? Empty what blood tests to get?

Post  xyion1 Mon May 17, 2010 11:07 am

I'm heading to the doc for the yearly tune up (mainly sports/joint injuries) and he'll probably want to take some blood to check the internals.

Are there any specific tests I should take? I know the "normal" vitamin D test isn't accurate or something, what about for T and SBHG and whatever else? Fasting insulin?

He's not a "natural" kind of doc I don't think, so I'm not sure how he'll react, but I'm going to ask anyway.

The ones I am going for are thyroid hormones, sex hormones, insulin, blood sugar.. those are certainly some of the most important.

Cortisol is also sometimes interesting, but usually only if the individual has been under prolonged stress or anything like that.

I'm probably missing or overlooking loads lol, but that's my input Smile

The following provide clues in the absense of medical history:

Triglycerides, glucose tolerance test (GTT), glucse, HDL, 25 hydroxyvitamin D, prolactin and TSH.

Can anyone add to this? I'm going to a doctor ,who is a friend of mine. He'll give me whatever I need. He thinks I'm just some crazy trainer tinkering with my health so it's cool.Very handy to have him around:)
