CausticSymmetry, my cousin for some years now has been on medicatons to dampen some chronic inflammation in the lower tract, a part of it is inflamed for some unknown reason. But now this medication is starting to give bad sideeffects .. what can he do? Curcumin might help? Any other stuff I may recommend him if he wants to stop the medication and try a natural treatment instead?

North-Europe - The remedy may depend on the specific type of inflammatory bowel condition he may have. However, the first thing to try is to eliminate Candida overgrowth which in some, will completely eliminate the problem (unless it's Crohn's or ulcerative colitis).

Besides killing Candida and at least in the initial short-term have him go all all wheat and sugar until this is cleared.

And of course have him take probiotics or a good source of them (kefir or other fermented foods).

L-Glutamine, taken a few grams per day will provide some good relief.

Also, he may want to add some butryic acid if his intestinal lining has been partially destroyed by Candida.

Curcumin, bromelain and the like will help.

Last, but not least, have him take plenty of vitamin D, perhaps 10,000 IU until his levels get up to a good range, then can taper the dose just a little.
