Thyroid - Do I really need a supplement for this?
I recently bought this product: http://www.iherb.com/EuroPharma-Tri-Iodine-12-5-mg-180-Capsules/20512?at=0
Seems like an excellent product but..
My problem is that I'm not sure if I actually have hyroid related problems. How can I tell? I don't wish to give my body more t-fuel if too much is already produced, resulting inhyperthyroidism.
So you guys tell me, do I have anything to fear?

Nice chart jdp710
Misirlou - Iodine can help normalize elevated thyroid levels as well, so if you were to read hyperthyroid, taking enough can eventually bring those levels back down.

btw i didnt ever think that it would be possible bc i am only 20 years old and I thought I would need a DHT blocker. IMO IH's theory of hairloss is completely correct.

IH's theory can be correct for some. Meaning that hair loss is a known symptom of thyroid disorder. This may be your case. However, some may have more of an androgenetic component and/or have normal thyroid levels and still be losing. Was your loss typical male pattern recession? Any regrowth from the iodine?

Would it be a bad idea to start with iodine when on antibiotics?
What can I expect first months of treatment with iodine?

jharsh80,
On a serious question, has anyone on this forum even tested normal under the Barnes Basal Temperature test?

Jdp,
I have no idea... I have never done it myself, just lab work. That's a good question though.

I have gotten a little bit a regrowth and thickening. I just love how my forehead has no oil on it when I wake up in the mornings now. My TSH level was 1.9 which according to Mercola is considered hypothyroid. He says anything above 1.5 is hypo. But the basal temps are def a good way to measure.

Yeah, the lab results aren't very accurate and the Barnes temperature test is a more reliable indicator of thyroid function.
I just wish I knew if anyone on this forum is experiencing hair loss but are under the normal range under the Barnes temperature test ...

jdp,
if you explain (or link) how to do it, I'll let you know if I am. I have my blood results as well to compare to. If I remember correctly you use a thermometer under your arm pits when you wake up right? It will hard to get my lazy ass to do it, but I will. I'm not a morning person at all.

Re: Thyroid - Do I really need a supplement for this?
Jdp,
I will do the basal temp test. Here are my thyroid results from a 10/06/08:
TSH, 3rd Generation: 1.84 (0.4-4.5 mIU/L)
T4, Free: 1.2 (.8-1.8 ng/dL)
T3, Free: 338 (239-420 pg/dL)
T3 Uptake: 36% (22-35%)
T4, Total: 7.6 (6-12 mcg/dL)
Free T4 Index: 2.7 (1.4-3.800)
Do you have any idea what the elevated T3 uptake indicates? My Naturopathic Doctor said that my thyroid levels were good, and didn't mention the elevated T3 uptake at all. I forgot to ask her about it. I was taking iodine at this time so maybe that had something to do with it.

I know the question wasn't directed at me, but iodine is an antibiotic. I'm guessing it would be ok. I would definitely be on a lot of probiotics if you are on antibiotics. I expect that others will answer that it is hard to predict what to expect because it is dose dependent and varies with the individual.

Are adrenal extracts a good idea to take along with thyroid?

Wouldn't the "positive" effects of antibiotics be halted by probiotics?

Antibiotics kill bacteria indiscriminately with a shotgun approach. Probiotics replace the wanted good bacteria. So it is really essential for someone who is on antibiotics- either now or in the past- to replace the "good" bacteria. Otherwise you will keep getting sick because your immune system is compromised (lack of good bacteria), and will be prescribed more antibiotics, in a never ending vicious cycle. I personally will not use oral antibiotics. I've seen them really mess people up.

I more or less had to start this round of antibiotics, I'm not proud of it and it will probably be the last time I turn to corpo-rat-meds.
Which probiotics should I stock up on? I'm thinking of Culturelle and Dr. Ohhira's. Please suggest/recommend.

I like Jarrow-EPS.

Re: Thyroid - Do I really need a supplement for this?
Dr. Ohhira's might be the way to go for you though because i believe it contains Saccharomyces boulardii. It is more expensive, but I would go that route if you can. I wouldn't suggest Culturelle by itself. If you were going to only take one strain by itself to start, I would use Jarrow's Saccharomyces boulardii+MOS for a while, and then add Culturelle after a couple months. Then switch over to Jarrow-EPS, or Dr. O's after a couple more months.

Blackjack,
Why do you say that? What number/numbers are you basing that off of?
