Testosterone gel and hairloss
i found this on another forum...
http://forum.mesomorphosis.com/mens-health-forum/dr-mariano-laymans-terms-134264810.html
#8 postThierry Hertoghe, M.D., a colleague who does a lot of teaching on hormone replacement therapy, who wrote a book, The Hormone Handbook, which should be a required book in anyone's collection, told me how he keeps his hair thick and growing by applying testosterone gel onto his forehad and scalp, rather than on his arms. He uses Finasteride to block conversion of the testosterone to DHT - which would promote male pattern hair loss. His idea is that testosterone promotes male hair growth, though DHT does not. He noted how years ago, his hair was thinning, but now it is a very full head of hair since he used this technique.
This isn't something I would generally try on someone who has a good head of hair. But some patients who were completely bald were interested in applying testosterone like Thierry does, to their scalp, along with the use of Finasteride. They have grown hair. We will have to see on follow up how much hair was grown.
So long as thyroid hormone is optimized and testosterone is optimized, then behavioral problems from increasing estrogen from using Finasteride, would be minimized.

Re: Testosterone gel and hairloss
He's using Finasteride, which is widely used to treat MPB, but he attributes his success to testosterone gel.
If he drops the Finasteride and still has success with testosterone gel, then he may have a case.
Right now all he has proven is that testosterone gel isn't detrimental to Finasteride results.

Re: Testosterone gel and hairloss
Reviving an older thread, the work of Dr Thierry Hertoghe has not been discussed much here. Let's take a look at what he does.
From my understanding the finasteride prevents the conversion of T gel to DHT.
This is what Thierry Hertoghe takes on a daily basis:
testosterone gel 10%: 1 dose/day
pregnenolone: 50 mg/day
melatonin: 0.5 mg sublingual/day
thyroid armour: 1.5 grain a day
hydrocortison: 30 mg/day
9 alfa fludrocortison: 100 ug/day
dhea: 40 mg/day
finasteride: 2.5 mg a day
progesterone: 100 mg/day
gh: 0.01 iu/day
vitamin e: 400 mg/day
coq10: 100 mg/day
multivitamin: 1/day
carnitine: 4g/day
fish oil: 3/day
b-complex: 1/day

What about applying growth hormone topically?
A DO friend of mine suggested I look at Thierry Hertoghe's work. So I came across the same stuff quoted above here.blackjack wrote:Yes it would be interesting to see how he does on just testosterone gel a lone...

Re: Testosterone gel and hairloss
I'm not sure if and how 5ar and aromotase work in the scalp locally, but what is the testosterone is either:
A) binding to the androgen receptors in place of dht (a weaker androgen- lesser of two evils)
and/or
b) Testosterone is converting to estrogen locally because of the reduced 5ar and possibly increased aromotase enzyme? ie. it's working like applying estrogen cream?
