MSM makes me very sleepy

Is this a typical side effect? I thought the opposite was supposed to be true that it would give energy and it shouldn't be taken at night, is it detoxing? I can sleep very good extra long time when taken at night almost too long where I need to set an alarm, so I guess it's not a bad side effect just not what I was expecting.
