Dr. Sinclair sez yes in so many words. So do lots of anecdotals. Interested in your perspectives on this

No doubt about it. Just the latest of many studies show in some way some examples of this. The "aging" reason for hair loss is a reduction in ATP to the area.

J Biol Regul Homeost Agents. 2017 Oct-Dec;31(4):1049-1053.
Mechanism of action of minoxidil in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia is likely mediated by mitochondrial adenosine triphosphate synthase-induced stem cell differentiation.
Goren A1,2, Naccarato T1, Situm M3, Kovacevic M2, Lotti T2, McCoy J1.

Topical minoxidil is the only topical drug approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. However, the exact mechanism by which minoxidil stimulates anagen phase and promotes hair growth is not fully understood. In the late telegen phase of the hair follicle growth cycle, stem cells located in the bulge region differentiate and re-enter anagen phase, a period of growth lasting 2-6 years. In androgenetic alopecia, the anagen phase is shortened and a progressive miniaturization of hair follicles occurs, eventually leading to hair loss. Several studies have demonstrated that minoxidil increases the amount of intracellular Ca2+, which has been shown to up-regulate the enzyme adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthase. A recent study demonstrated that ATP synthase, independent of its role in ATP synthesis, promotes stem cell differentiation. As such, we propose that minoxidil induced Ca2+ influx can increase stem cell differentiation and may be a key factor in the mechanism by which minoxidil facilitates hair growth. Based on our theory, we provide a roadmap for the development of a new class of drugs for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia.

For heart patients who have suffered a heart attack, I always advise them to take D-Ribose. It a component of adenosine triphosphate or ATP (for example) https://amzn.to/2PXXx7K

I have speculated that a supplement like this could improve hair growth.

Adenosine has been found in onions and garlic and is thought to be the function of their anti-platelet ability. Maybe onion/garlic based topicals aren't crazy after all?

I've read a few anecdotes about topical niacinamide thickening up hair. I wonder if adding d-ribose wouldn't be more effective. David Sinclair could make a lot more money if his patented nicotinamide riboside was shown to grown hair.

Unfortunately ribose also contributes to the production of Advanced Glycation End Products... Sad

«In order to analyze the effects of collagen AGEs on bone resorption we used cortical bone slices from 3-month-old calves, in which the formation of AGEs was induced in vitro, by incubating the slices with D-ribose in PBS at 37°C for various times. After 60 days of incubation in the presence of 0.2 M ribose, there was a browning of the bone matrix, which characterizes the Maillard reaction (Figure 1A). The formation of AGEs was confirmed by the marked induction of pentosidine concentration in the 3-month-old cortical bone slices (Figure 1B). In contrast, there was no change in the content of the mature enzymatic collagen crosslinks PYD (Figure 1C) and DPD (Figure 1D) in slices incubated at 37°C either with or without ribose.»
