Totally Messed Up Stress Response
Hey all!
I have a really messed up response to stress. When something very minor and insignificant happens, sometimes my heart rate will increase, and it basically triggers a fight or flight response for the stupidest things. On the outside I look totally calm and normal but inside it's a huge adrenaline response or whatever you want to call it.
I'm starting to think I'm actually hypERthyroid.
Adrenal fatigue? Not enough cortisol?
Thoughts?
Thanks

Re: Totally Messed Up Stress Response
This is exactly what happens to me, i have crazy anxiety for absolutely no reason. One example i can give you is anytime i go to say get a hair cut, i get crazy anxiety for literally no reason. I look calm on the outside but inside everything is racing. I also get extremely sweating under no stress, even when sitting down doing homework i still sweat like crazy so there is definitely a connection here with the sweating and anxiety possibly being caused by an over active thyroid. I also do think that if i get to the core cause of these issues that i am having then this might be my answer to my receding hairline. Let me know if you are experiencing anything similar.

Yeah I get like that too, but usually it's more of during any type of even very slightly stressful situation.

I've been trying to solve the same problem for at least a decade. I'm almost 27 now and I still haven't resolved the problem completely, but I'll explain what I've observed and what has helped me. I remember about 6-7 years ago when my hair-loss problem caused a general unraveling of my life. Started failing out of college, became depressed and reclusive, etc. I thought I was going to die but I didn't. I'm not sure if any of this will help you, but I hope that other people will also contribute their experiences and thoughts.
1. Be very methodical in identifying the various sources of stress in your life. Be aware of your mental and emotional state at all times and take note of external triggers that send you into that negative state. Make a list and remember each one. Address each trigger in a methodical and planned way. Gradually you'll develop self-awareness and become more skilled at catching yourself before you start slipping.
2. I know this is a controversial topic, but I think reducing porn/masturbation is a good step if you are trying to curb anxiety problems. The more I think about it, it becomes more obvious that the most secure people probably don't sit at home pleasuring themselves.
3. Have good role models in life. Short list a group of people that, every time you think of those people, your mind feels at ease. They don't even have to be people you know. They could be famous athletes, for example.
4. Build a better body.

I went as far as to wear a heart rate monitor daily and constantly checked heart rate under various conditions and circumstances. It helped tremendously.

Many of the real-life examples above sound like autonomic dysfunction. However, it's best to rule out more easily diagnosed/treated conditions first.
