Protease Nexin-1 is in Human Dermal Papilla Cells is depressed by DHT
An old study but a new connection. Nexin is a plasmin activator and the following study confirms its expression is suppressed by DHT in the dermal papilla. If there is a way to spare Nexin-1 from DHT or to supply additional antiplasmin that may help counteract a primary mechanism in the miniaturization of the hair follicle.

Could this be one reason why to why 5-AR inhibitors such as finasteride actually do work?
