Bulking and Hair Empty Bulking and Hair

Post  SonofOdin Mon Dec 01, 2014 8:03 am

Well it's winter time and so far I've actually somehow been losing weight trying to put on pounds. Last year I used to chug 1,000+ calorie shakes I'd make and snack on poptarts for an easy 400 calories... then hair loss kicked in and I thought eating healthy would slow its progression. Anyway I'm afraid to return to last winters bulk. What can I do? I try to eat a lot of rice and sweet potatoes but it takes so long to prepare. I truly think I need to somehow acquire at least 4,000 calories a day in order for a guy like me to gain weight. Any other lifters here found a way to bulk without ravaging their hair quality?

Eggs... raw.... lots of them.

As for sweet potatoes and rice just prepare a big batch twice a week then reheating it takes 2 seconds. For rice I'll just leave it unseasoned and then I can throw it in to whatever I want on the fly.

Bulking up is quite hard when you have to limit yourself to certain food...I just started doing ray peat and man, its hard gaining weight with that way of eating.

Potatoes!

@Duke will have to try the raw egg. How do you consume it? Or just like that?

Reviving an old thread. Anyone have any suggestions/thoughts on this topic?

I'm finding that it is difficult to stay healthy while in a calorie surplus. Within 1-2 weeks, there are symptoms of insulin resistance, especially when the surplus calories are sugars. My thought is that gaining lean mass is possible if hormones are optimized (increase testosterone and growth hormone, reduce cortisol), even without a significant calorie surplus.

Probably old and useless advice at this point lol, but add some oil to your shakes, like almond oil or avocado oil (the good kind, expeller pressed, etc).  Or olive oil if you want, or coconut oil, but that one doesn't really mix well, whatever.  Just one tablespoon is around 120 calories and is super healthy.
