Need assistance with test results...
CS-I went in for just a regular checkup. Whatever that is. I really don't know all the tests that were being done. But i'm sure Hepatitis B and TSH were being tested. Keep in mind that i may have a thyroid and/or adrenal fatigue problem. And i'm in the process of finding that out through blood work.
Anyway, everything seemed ok except the following:
ALT = 51 range (11 - 35)
Alb = 5.2 " (3.7 - 5.1)
My AST, T Bil, D Bil, T Prot were all within range. My doctor thinks the fish oils i'm taking may have contributed to the high ALT level. He suggested that i should stop taking it for 3 weeks and come back in for another test. Can fish oil elevate your ALT level? And is it something to worry about? I've been taking only 3 fish oils and 1 black currant oil per day prior to the test.
TSH = .94 Range (0.35 - 4.
I thought this is a little low. But it's within range. What do you think? Still waiting for the results of free T3 and T4.
GLU = 105 Range (70 - 99)
My glucose level is way above range. I immediate thought: insulin resistant? What do you think? I don't have a history of diabetes in my family. To think of it, i have none. What can cause my glucose level to go this high?
What other tests should i ask for? I don't think my doctor does cortisol test (saliva). I just want to get to the bottom line of this.
Thanks

Re: Need assistance with test results...
GoodThings - ALT levels are very unlikely to go higher because of fish oil.
They could go up by using acetaminophen, fried foods or could be a hint that you may have NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease), but your levels are not extreme.
.94 for TSH? That's okay.
105 for Glucose may not be cause for alarm, since it doesn't say much. What would give you a more definitive measure is to have a GTT, which is a glucose tolerance test.
Having a "history" of diabetes really doesn't mean much, because our foods today are a bit different than they were before. Insulin resistance like conditions are in the higher numbers today because of several factors more prevalent today than before.

Re: Need assistance with test results...
Some info about ALT:
ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase, SGPT): This is yet another enzyme that is found in high levels within the liver. Injury or disease of the liver will result in an increase in levels of ALT. Smaller quantities are also found in skeletal muscle, so there can be a weight-training induced increase thru DOMS/resistance training damage to muscle tissue, giving a false indicator for liver disease. Increased levels can be indicative of hepatitis, hepatic necrosis, cirrhosis, cholestasis, hepatic tumor, hepatotoxic drugs, and jaundice, as well as severe burns, trauma to striated muscle (via weight training), myocardial infarction, mononucleosis, and shock.
