High Histamine
IH,
I've been experiencing symptoms of high histamine of late: Insomina, surges of adrenaline and anxiety for no reason, skin rashes, low energy. Do you have any experience with resolving high histamine? I know that vitamin C removes histamine, and that is one reason why I have been so interested in it of late. Any other ideas?

Awesome timing on this. (This is perhaps the fourth or fifth time this has happened to me on this forum: someone starts a thread on a topic I had intended to address.)
My friend's son is suffering horribly from hives. He's been to the doctor and was given Benadryl and Calamine lotion; seems like it is getting worse. The likely culprit is a seafood sauce, eaten at a restaurant. If anyone has some suggestions, I'd love to pass them along

Re: High Histamine
EIC - One herb that has a good antihistamine effect is Butterbur, it works almost as well as Allegra.
High histamine levels have been correlated to some forms of addiction (that could include my former cravings for sugar).
Methionine can help breakdown histamine. In any case, if this experience persists, you'll probably want to get yourself checked for histamine, copper levels/ceruloplasmin and zinc levels.

Thanks. That reminded me that quercetin is regarded as an antihistamine. It is one of those supplements that I often overlook.

That said, before posting this, last night, I recalled the benefit I got from the homeopathic remedy: sulphur 30c for a similar allergic reaction, so i recommended it. I also told her about vitamin c dosing, based on EC's post; combined with an ice pack and a colloidal oatmeal moisturizer, instead of the calamine lotion, now the kid is doing alright.
IH--
Since it is a kid, I was weary of recommending any herbs. And since your post wasn't addressed to me, I assumed it was a no go.

Gibson - Butterbur or Quercetin would be safe for kids. Often Quercetin is found combined with Bromelain.

Thanks, IH. I can't really think of any addictions. I am looking at the methionine connection and copper levels. Do you think the physician you recommended to Joejoe would be up on all this stuff?

Yup. San Diego, as a matter of fact. The OC is not too far to drive for a quality doc. I am primarily interested in someone who can help monitor and balance hormones.
