Borrage Oil Carcinogenic??!!! Empty Borrage Oil Carcinogenic??!!!

Post  sissi on Thu Jul 17, 2008 3:36 am

Immorthal I was reading about borrage oil and I found an article that said that borrage oil could be carcinogenic, and I´m very worried... No
It says:

"any studies using borage oil employ relatively high dosages of borage oil. However, study participants are always under close medical supervision. Borage seeds contain small amounts of liver toxins called pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA’s). Some research suggests that high-levels of amabiline, a PA present in borage oil, could be carcinogenic and may cause liver damage. There is as yet no established maximum safe level for borage oil, furthermore no studies have been conducted to prove that long-term use or high-dose use of the product poses no threat to health. For these reasons it is important to take borage oil as directed on packaging."

sissi - It's the first I have heard that. Here's an alternative, which is Black Currant Oil

I'm sure I've mentioned Neptune Krill Oil before right? That's another good option.

The borage oil was beeing good for my skin,it was less oily...But I don´t want to take it because of my liver Sad
Do you think the black currant could have the same (good) effect on skin???
And can I really take the pumpkin seed oil,is that safe??I´ve been taking it....

You can also take evening primrose oil, I think that is a popular one that has been 'in use' longer
than the other ones. You would probably have to take twize dosage compared to borage to make up for lesser
gla in evening primrose.
