Topical and Oral Caffeine - Risk of downregulating VDR? Empty Topical and Oral Caffeine - Risk of downregulating VDR?

Post  Rudiger Mon Oct 29, 2018 6:20 am

Would the application of topical caffeine risk downregulating vitamin D receptors in the scalp? And would the consumption of caffeine (through coffee or tea) also risk downregulating the VDR?

There's one study showing caffeine depletes VDR in osteoblast cells. Caffeine is an adenosine antagonist in the brain as far as I know, but I'm not sure if this would translate to the scalp/hair. Topical caffeine is also supposed to help stimulate hair growth. There's also a myriad of benefits for hair and general health that green tea, black tea and coffee give. So is caffeine a concern?

Wouldn't' worry. While the VDR may be reduced, the levels of levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D are not.
