Beta Sis/ Saw Palmetto
I've been taking both these supplements for a 2-3 weeks now. Libido is definately not as great as it was before taking these but other than that no other noticable side effects. I just wanted to know if anyone else has taken these for a sustained period of time and had a positive effect on hair? People talk about these being a much weaker and so not really effective alternative to Propecia. Are there any similarities between the two?

Joey - I've used these for years beginning in the mid to late 90's and ultimately, found they only slow down hair loss unless you're suffering from a very mild form of AGA.
If you're past your mid-20's would avoid these all together.
One concept that has not be embraced fully in MPB is that high testosterone is extremely desirable. Except in the young, high testosterone prevents insulin resistance and excessive DHT and estrogen.

Re: Beta Sis/ Saw Palmetto
Thanks CS. I am in my late 20s so maybe it is something to reconsider. Would something like Maca prove to be benficial with regards to Testosterone?

Joey - Maca has no effective on hormone levels. However, it can raise IGF-1 and this could prove useful for some. Check out some past threads on Maca. The Google search option instead of the "Inside" works better.

Re: Beta Sis/ Saw Palmetto
Maca has a lot of great benefits, but you should be very careful with the quality of Maca that you're using. Make sure that it's organic, and farmed from some of the highest plateaus in Peru...the higher it's farmed in the mountains, the more mineral content that the soil has. This is the stuff that the actual ancient Incans, and their present-day Peruvian descendants use, and is the same stuff that has yielded all of the interesting results in studies.
